Research indicates that inactive older adults, by becoming active, can offset 50% or more of the physical loss during those years. The program places emphasis on resistance exercise, flexibility training, and functional activities.

Program Details

Living Independently Through Fitness and Exercise (L.I.F.E.) is a program specially designed for individuals sixty-five years of age or older. The program focuses on developing strength, agility, and flexibility. With improved functional fitness, activities of daily living are more easily accomplished, thus allowing each participant to remain independent for as long as possible. Since its' inception, L.I.F.E. has been named as a Successful Active Aging Program by the American College of Sports Medicine and has been featured in numerous articles.

L.I.F.E. sessions are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and members have the option of choosing from sessions that begin at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., or 10 a.m. Sessions are lead by certified fitness professionals that create diverse and interactive fitness routines that are sure to be fun.

Program Cost and Registration

Non-Herbert Wellness Center Members: $165 for 36 sessions (12 weeks)
Herbert Wellness Center Members: $115 for 36 sessions (12 weeks)
  1. Complete the Medical History Form and the Program Application Packet.
  2. The Program Application Packet includes a letter for your physician describing the program and a physician's approval form. You are required to get your physician's approval to participate.
  3. Email or fax the completed Medical History Form and Program Application Packet to the Herbert Wellness Center.
  4. Once all materials are received, you will be contacted to schedule a program orientation and basic fitness assessment.
  5. Enjoy the L.I.F.E. Program!


  1. Only persons registered for the L.I.F.E. program may enter program sessions.
  2. Wellness Center non-members may only access the building for the purposes of attending their program sessions.
  3. Program sessions will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., or 10:00 a.m. Participants must wait in the atrium until program staff have arrived and cleared the participants to enter the multipurpose room.
  4. Any L.I.F.E. member planning to take an extended leave of absence must notify the staff.  Any member who is absent from the program for two weeks without notifying a staff member will be dropped to the waiting list.  Long term absences due to illness or any other emergency situation will be handled on a case by case basis.

Non-Members: Registration in the L.I.F.E. program does not extend to other Wellness Center activities.  Individuals caught using the Wellness Center for activities other than those paid for will be asked to leave and not be allowed to use the Wellness Center or participate in any classes in the future. No refund will be given.
