Adventure Trips

Get out outside to explore new places, gain skills, meet new people and have fun. A wide range of trips focusing on beginner opportunities in stand up paddleboarding, surfing, snorkeling, camping, hiking, bicycling, skiing and more.

Explore the outdoors in the Miami area, throughout the state of Florida, across the United States, or even abroad. Trips vary in length, level of adventure, physical intensity/difficulty, and accommodation types. In addition to pre-planned experiences, we offer custom trips for student organizations or University departments.

Trips are open to all current students (graduate and undergraduate) as well as faculty and staff with an active Outdoor Adventures membership. All trips have trained and certified staff who help every step of the way. No experience necessary for any trips unless specifically mentioned.

What's Included

  • Trip food, gear, transportation, camping, and Trip Leaders (see each trip for specifics of what is included).
  • We adjust all trip menu plans according to dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Occasionally, groups will eat on the road while traveling. These meals are generally not included in the trip cost. Your trip leaders will inform you of any meals not included in the trip price.

More Information

  • On most trips, you don’t need any experience. Really. If a trip requires experience, we’ll indicate what experience you should have.
  • Due to weather and other safety concerns, trip itineraries are subject to change.
  • Overnight trips will include a pre-trip meeting. This meeting is mandatory for trip participants. It will include valuable information, such as appropriate clothing, necessary gear, what food to bring, the trip plan, and any necessary paperwork. 
  • Participants who miss a pre-trip meeting without prior approval forfeit their spot and will not receive a refund.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a program due to inclement weather, natural disasters, or extenuating circumstances. In the event we must cancel a program, a full trip refund will be provided.
  • Should you choose to cancel, your registration fees will be refunded if we are notified of the cancellation via email 14 days before the registration deadline.

    • Camping (Primitive): Camping every night with minimal amenities. Limited access to running water, bathrooms, showers, and cell phone reception.
    • Camping (Frontcountry): Camping with access to most amenities, usually have access to running water and bathrooms; may not have access to showers and cell phone reception.
    • Camping (Standard): Camping with all the amenities. Usually have access to running water, bathrooms, showers, and cell phone reception.
    • Basic: Simple and clean hut, cabin, hotels or hostels, maybe some camping; affordable public and private transport; lots of optional activities.

  • Trip Length

    • Weeknight Adventures: Make the most of your week with sunset paddles, nature hikes, outdoor skills classes, and more!
    • Day Adventures: Don’t want to commit to an overnight? Head out for a day to do some hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, or stand up paddleboarding. Most activities are within a 2 hour drive and give you the opportunity to explore Florida’s beautiful outdoors.
    • Overnight Adventures: From local camping adventures to the mountains and valleys of North Carolina, take a weekend to experience nature to the fullest. Breathtaking views, new friends, and unforgettable memories await you.
    • Expedition Adventures: Really want to experience nature? Join us for trips ranging from 4 - 12 nights, whether it be over Winter Break, Spring Break, or Summer we will be off exploring the world. We may be road tripping out West, staying in a cabin near the Great Smoky Mountains, or surfing in Costa Rica. These trips are a bigger commitment, but always turn out to be the most fun!

  • Challenge Rating

    • Simple: A relaxing day outside, not much exertion. Easy does it. Prior experience is not necessary.
    • Light: Light walking, hiking, or paddling suitable for most fitness levels. Nothing too challenging. Prior experience is not necessary.
    • Moderate: Active during the duration of the trip, nothing too strenuous. Prior experience is not necessary.
    • Strenuous: Some more strenuous activities, but accessible to most healthy participants.
    • Challenging: Instances of heavy exertion, prior experience with activity highly recommended.
